Pediatric Gastroenterology at Queen's University is compromised of a highly skilled team including one GI specialist and allied health professionals. We are dedicated to providing excellent tertiary care to our young patients in the greater Kingston area. This service provides comprehensive care for infants, children and adolescents with a variety of gastroenterological, liver, feeding and nutritional problems associated with gastrointestinal disease. We see patients from birth up to their 18th birthday.

The children's outpatient centre is located at Hotel Dieu Hospital. Here we see all pediatric gastrointestinal, liver and nutritional disorders and perform most endoscopy procedures (endoscopy, colonoscopy). Our consultation service and endoscopic procedures for inpatients is located at Kingston General Hospital. All of our patients are seen by referral. As an academic health center, we take pride in helping educate excellent medical students, trainees in pediatrics, family medicine and fellowship programs of gastroenterology at Queen's University.

We have one full-time board certified pediatric gastroenterologist, Dr. Christopher Justinich, who was trained in Pediatrics at The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, and in Pediatric GI at the University of Montreal-Ste Justine Hospital. Dr. Justinich has garnered international recognition for his work in the field of food allergy and gastrointestinal disorders caused by allergy. He maintains a basic science laboratory where the team researches the immune system of the gastrointestinal tract, particularly esophagitis from acid and from allergy (eosinophilic esophagitis). Dr. Justinich is a member of and collaborates with researchers in the Queen's GIDRU (Gastrointestinal Diseases Research Unit).

Other members of our team include administrative assistant, Stephanie Pilszak, lab technician, Nanette Mak and dietician Teresa Schneider.

Dr. Chris Justinich is a full-time Pediatric Gastroenterologist.

Dr. Justinich is a graduate of the Queen's School of Medicine and completed his residency training in Pediatrics at the University of Ottawa.

His work in Pediatric Gastroenterology includes consultation on a broad range of pediatric GI concerns. He has a particular clinical interest in food allergy.

He is an active researcher and member of the GI Diseases Research Unit (GIDRU). His interests include the study of gastrointestinal food allergic disorders, including the area of esophageal inflammation, both acid-induced and allergy-related (eosinophilic) esophagitis.
